In Spanish, they match the noun in number and grammatical gender. Es una manzana. \u00bfWhat&#8217;s that? That&#8217;s an apple. <\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"2\">El elefante es un animal. The elephant is an animal. <\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"2\">\u00bfQui\u00e9n es Cristiano Ronaldo? Un futbolista. \u00bfWho&#8217;s Cristiano Ronaldo? A football player. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Indicate quantity:\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"2\">With singular countable nouns, it indicates a single unit. Tengo un reloj, quiero comprar un auto. I have a watch, I want to buy a car. <\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"2\">With plural countable nouns, it refers to more than one unit without specifying the exact quantity. Tengo unos libros para regalar. Compr\u00e9 unas manzanas que estaban muy ricas. have some books to give away. I bought some apples that were very tasty.  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">In spoken language, they are used with uncountable nouns to refer to the presentation of certain products, for example.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"2\"><i>\u00bfMe das un agua? <\/i>means a bottle of water.  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>An exception: when the noun is omitted, the singular masculine indefinite article <i>un <\/i> becomes <i>uno<\/i>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">\u00bfTienes un l\u00e1piz? Do you have a pencil?<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">S\u00ed, tengo uno. Yes, I have one. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In addition, as with the definite articles, before feminine nouns that begin with a stressed -a or -ha (if the &#8220;a&#8221; is stressed), <i>un <\/i> is used instead of <i>una<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>Un \u00e1guila. Are your parents Catholic?<\/p>\n<p>They are used when, after the noun, we add an adjective or a relative clause. <\/p>\n<p>Manuel es un profesor muy responsable. Manuel is a very responsible teacher.<\/p>\n<p>Luis Miguel es un cantante mexicano. Luis Miguel is a Mexican singer.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c9l es un budista que vive en Argentina. He is a Buddhist who lives in Argentina. <\/p>\n<p>The indefinite article is also not used when referring to the class of the noun, and not to an individual member of that class.<\/p>\n<p>Mi padre guarda vinos en el s\u00f3tano. My father keeps wines in the basement.<\/p>\n<p>No tengo ganas. I don\u2019t feel like. <\/p>\n<p>No queda pan. There&#8217;s no more bread.<\/p>\n<p>\u00bfHay manzanas?
